Posted - 20 December 2009 : 22:04:00 This new publication relates to one of the most beautiful areas of the Borders.
Alan Turnbull and the ‘Selkirkshire Antiquarians’ have produced a fascinating set of monumental inscriptions on CD covering the parishes of Kirkhope.
Kirkhope is a parish of Selkirkshire with Ettrickbridge being the main village in the parish where the Cemetery is located. The cemetery dates from the early 1800s in its current form and contains 225 gravestones.
The Kirkhope publication provides details on such names as Scott, Nichol, Mitchell, Anderson and Little with all stones recorded both pictorially and in writing. In addition to the recorded inscriptions and photographs of the stones, the CD also includes a brief history of the parish, school records, militia list details from the Napoleonic wars and details of recordings on the war memorial.
This publication reflects the enthusiasm of the Selkirkshire Antiquarians and will make a great gift for those tracing their family trees to this area of the Borders or simply with an interest in these beautiful parts of Scotland.
