Posted - 31 December 2012 : 15:51:01 My great grandfather, James Smart (1845-1916), is reputed to have been Gala Burgh constable in the 1870s and that he and his wife Janet Davidson lived in the police office. Can anyone enlarge on this ? or advise me as to any records that may be of help. Alan

alan	Posted - 08 January 2013 : 21:54:24 I understood the BFHSociety were transcribing the local Lothian and Border Police Records maybe someone can updated us to the current situation. The lothian and Border HQ at Fettes, Edinburgh i understand do hold some records but to what extent I dont know.
