Has anybody heard of an estate, this would be about 1700, called West Pool, maybe near Linlighgow. There was a Laird, and I am calling it West Pool as this was from a barely legible wedding certificate of that time.

It certainly does help! As is the way I went into the Certificate again and it is West Port.

Very many thanks for that.

Kind regards, Jill

I came across the resource of historical Scottish maps via this site. Just google "nls maps"
Had a quick look and there are a variety for the Linlithgow area.

eg
http://maps.nls.uk/atlas/thomson/view/?rsid=74400118&sid=74400118&mid=451

From a quick scan I couln't see Westpool anywhere, but there is a West Port in Linlithgow itself.

Hope this helps!
