Posted - 29 November 2009 : 19:39:25 The church of Houndwood lies in the parish of Coldingham, close to Grantshouse in Berwickshire. The church was built in 1836 as a ‘quoad sacra parish’, that is a parish for religious purposes only, to build upon a wave of religious fervour at the time.
The churchyard was not utilised for burials until 1901 with burials prior to that date being in Coldingham. Recently application was made (unsuccessfully) to convert the church into flats and this spurred the Society on to transcribe the inscriptions in the kirkyard for posterity.
The completed work on CD, has an index of all recorded names referencing them back to the inscription. The CD also contains colour photographs of all the stones recorded. The work includes details on ministers of the kirk and the war memorial inscriptions.
With 321 stones recorded, this publication is an essential work for those tracing their family roots in Berwickshire or with an interest in Houndwood and its environs.
