I have just learned that my great-great-grandparents Robert Stephenson and Isabella Wight have a headstone in Melrose Abbey graveyard. I've been sent photos, and it's broken and lying in two pieces on the ground.
I would quite like to have the stone repaired and re-erected, although I suspect this would cost a small fortune.
Does anyone know who I should contact for permission to repair a stone there? In Fife a few years ago, when I had a similar request, graveyards and their headstones came under Fife Council's Department of Leisure and Recreation!
