When my 5 x great-grandfather William Stephenson drew up his last will and testament in 1807 at Langburnshiels, parish of Hobkirk, Roxburghshire, he had it witnessed by his farm servant Robert WHILLANS.

Does anyone know who this man was, details of his family, etc?

Thanks, do you have any more information? Whellans/Whillans is an impossible surname to look up on the IGI as it always returns Williams, and I can't find Robert and Archibald on Scotlandspeople.

I know of a William Whillans born at Hobkirk in 1856 to James Whillans and Agnes Jack. They were also the parents of Thomas Whillans who married Christian Pittillo at Galashiels in 1875.

Thanks, the Whillans of Southdean are a well-known "clan", if I remember rightly.
