On my GG grandfathers marriage certificate it states his fathers occupation as Steward. Is anyone able to explain this occupation? It would have been around 1820- 1850 near Sorbie and the borders area.

It'll be a farm steward, somebody responsible for the general management of a farm.

Try looking for your GGG grandfather in the 1841 census, if you know where he was living, and see what it says there.
