I have been researching my family history and in a 1728 register of marriage I have come across a word i cannot identify. I think it is a place name, but trying internet searches using a variety of spellings has produced no results. Can anyone here shed any light on "belsbrew: or "belsbree" ?

Thanks

Strath,

The entry is in the Parish Records of Manor Parish . It says " March the 16th, John Hislop in belsb*** had a son baptised called John"

George, There is a Bellanridge, in Manor, in the right place for you;
now I think named Ballenridge.
You can see it just south west of Peebles in the BordersFHS Peebleshire old map.
It was mentioned in the Statistical Account of Peebles-shire, 1834,
as owned by land owner, Mungo Campbell Esq.who also owned Hallyards.
my best guess!
rgds, Strath
