The following statement describes the privacy practices for the Borders Family History Society website:
- We collect personal information from our users only if they wish to contact us, registering to use our forum or record their surname interests taking out or renewing a subscription, or so that other persons interested in their enquiries or interests can contact them.
- IP addresses may be logged for aggregate statistics and diagnosis
- We pass the name and house name or number and the postcode of subscribers who ask us under Gift Aid to reclaim tax on their subscription to
H M Revenues & Customs (we have never been asked for anyone's address)
- We don't share personal information with any other organisation, except in order to process your payments or if required by law or legal process, without your consent
- We don't store membership details on our website, with the exception that persons whose queries and interests and forum membership are listed may be members of Borders Family History Society
- We do not use cookies to track any user information except as stated below

Use of the Borders Family History Society website constitutes your acceptance of these Terms and Conditions which take effect on the date from which you first use the site.

Terms of Sale for Research Requests
All prices are in £ (pounds) sterling, and exclusive of postage charges. VAT is not payable.
Payment methods are shown in our Sales List.
We reserve the right to refuse your research request, or to do only part of it, depending on time taken, availability of volunteers to do the research, information you provide, and information provided by our bankers and credit providers.
Information you provide including credit card details may be passed to our credit providers and card issuers.
Our volunteers will work on your research request as soon as they have the time, however no date can be estimated or guaranteed.
We cannot guarantee that the research will provide the information you're seeking, or any information, nor that the research will be correct or complete. Irrespective of the results obtained, you will still be charged the cost of the research.
Our maximum liability is limited to the amount charged.
We will accept cancellation of a research request only if our volunteers have not started working on it.
To cancel your research request, write, saying you wish to cancel your research request to Borders Family History Society, 52 Overhaugh St, Galashiels, Scottish Borders, TD1 1DP, Scotland.
In the event that we haven't started working on your research request, we will not make a charge.
Terms of Sale for Publications
All prices are in £ (pounds) sterling, and exclusive of postage charges. VAT is not payable.
We accept payment by cheque drawn on a UK bank in £ sterling please, made payable to Borders Family History Society.
Alternatively, you may pay by credit card.
Please provide your full card number, name (as printed on the card), postal address, email address / telephone number, card type (Mastercard or Visa), start date, end date, 3 digit security number, issue no (if there is one).
Prices, and goods are subject to availability and may change at any time prior to acceptance of your order.
Postage charges are shown in our Sales List.
We reserve the right to refuse your order, or to split your order, depending on availability of stock, information you provide, and information provided by our bankers and credit providers.
Information you provide including credit card details may be passed to our credit providers and card issuers.
You may cancel part or all of your order at any time before delivery, and up to 7 working days after delivery of goods.
To cancel all of part of your order, write, saying you wish to cancel your order, and return the goods to the Sales Officer, Borders Family History Society, 52 Overhaugh St, Galashiels, Scottish Borders, TD1 1DP, Scotland.
The goods returned must be complete, and in original packaging. In the case of CDs, the packaging must be sealed.
Within 30 days of receipt of your cancellation and the returned goods we will refund the cost of the goods plus the outward postage (but not your return postage).
Terms of Sale for Poor Law Records and Monumental Inscriptions CDs
Copyright
Digital images of the poor law records, the Jedburgh Poorhouse accounts and the Jedburgh map are the copyright of Scottish Borders Archives and Local History Centre.
All other material, except where acknowledged otherwise on the CD, is the copyright of Borders Family History Society.
The CD content contained on Poor Law Records and Monumental Inscriptions CDs is owned by the copyright holder and is protected by United Kingdom copyright laws, international treaty provisions, and all other applicable national laws. The CD content must be treated like all other copyrighted materials (e.g. books and musical recordings). This licence does not allow the CD to be rented or leased, and any written materials or images accompanying the content (if any) may not be copied.
If your proposed usage is not covered by either of the agreements below, you should apply to us via our Contacts page (contact type Licence Queries) for either a Professional or a Network Licence, stating your intended usage.
Personal Licence Agreement for people buying this publication for private use
The following is a legal licence agreement between you, the licensee, and the copyright holders of the CD.

The content is provided "as is" and without warranty of any kind and the copyright holder expressly disclaims all warranties and/or conditions, express or implied, including, but not limited to, the implied warranties and/or conditions of merchantability or satisfactory quality and fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement of third party rights.
The copyright holder does not warrant that the content will meet your requirements, or that the use of the CD will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that defects in the CD will be corrected. Furthermore, copyright holder does not warrant or make any representations regarding the use or the results of the use of the CD or related documentation in terms of their correctness, reliability, or otherwise. No oral or written information or advice given by the copyright holder or an authorized representative shall create a warranty or in any way increase the scope of this warranty. Should the CD prove defective, you shall assume the entire cost of all necessary servicing, repair or correction, but you may return it for replacement to Borders Family History Society.
Limitation of Liability
This applies to Personal, Institutional, Professional and Network Licences.
Borders Family History Society shall not be liable to you for any loss or damage, except as specifically set forth in this agreement, arising directly or indirectly in connection with this licence, the CD, its use or otherwise.
Notwithstanding the generality of the foregoing, Borders Family History Society expressly excludes liability for negligence, indirect, special, incidental or consequential loss or damage which may arise in respect of the CD, its use, the system or in respect of other equipment or property, or for loss of profit, business, revenue, goodwill or anticipated savings.
