Research Service

Our very experienced members are prepared to undertake some research on behalf of members and interested individuals. As this work is undertaken by volunteers we would ask for your patience.

We are able to search the following documents:
Census: 1841 to 1911.
Old Parish Records (births, marriages, deaths before 1855) and Monumental Inscriptions for the counties of Berwickshire, Roxburghshire, Selkirkshire and Peebleshire.
Poor Law Records for the parishes of Jedburgh and Melrose. We hold some records for neighbouring parishes including North Northumberland eg. cross border marriages.
We also have an extensive library of books, articles, periodicals and local history miscellany - see our catalogues.
Additionally, family trees submitted by members can be searched - see our Family Tree Search.

Half an hour of research time costs £7.50 (members) £10 (non-members).
There is a ceiling of 2 hours per request.
This charge is to cover the running costs of our research facility and to enable us to purchase and publish more archive material and resources.
We accept payment by cheque drawn on a UK bank in £ sterling please, made payable to Borders Family History Society.
Alternatively, you may pay by debit or credit card.
